2020 Commencement Update
Dear Graduates and Current Students,
As you may have heard, Moody Bible Institute's 2020 Commencement Ceremonies have been cancelled. To read the Provost’s full announcement, please click here.
We are deeply saddened by this further disruption to the lives of our students and graduates. The recognition of your accomplishments at these ceremonies is important to us, so we grieve with you during this time. We also praise God for you as we think of your growth and kingdom-impact while at Moody.
In light of these cancellations, we are working to determine how to best honor and recognize you all for your accomplishments during your time at Moody. While the ceremonies have been cancelled, here is what you can count on so far:
1. A virtual chapel will be held by Dr. Jobe on May 5th, 2020 to honor all of our graduates
2. All graduates are invited to participate in a commencement ceremony that is scheduled for next year, 2021. We are requesting that ALL graduates please RSVP here: academic-records.moody.edu/Homepage/forms/CC21.
3. For those who choose not to participate in one of the 2021 ceremonies, we would still like to mail you your regalia, Alumni Bible, and diploma cover in addition to your diploma (students coming to a 2021 ceremony will not be mailed their regalia, Alumni Bible, or diploma cover, they can pick this up prior to the ceremony in 2021).
4. All graduating students will be sent their diploma once their academic requirements are fulfilled, verified, and degree conferred (this usually happens in June).
Ceremony dates for 2021:
- Chicago Commencement (undergraduate and graduate) – May 15th, 2021
- Spokane Commencement – June 19th, 2021
- Michigan Commencement – May 8th, 2021
Note: despite the Provost’s announcement, we do not need you to fill the RSVP by April 15th. Please ensure that you have completed it by June 1st, 2020. Failure to submit the RSVP will result in your not receiving any of the graduation materials (regalia, Alumni Bible, diploma cover).
It has been an incredible privilege to have you as students. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve you in any way we can. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns by emailing email@example.com.
Registrar & The Office of Academic Records
How do I communicate my intent to attend or not attend one of the 2021 ceremonies?
Easy! Just fill out our RSVP form by click here.
What should I know if I indicate that I am participating in one of the 2021 ceremonies?
If you are participating in one of the 2021 ceremonies, you will not receive your regalia, Alumni Bible, or diploma cover. You will receive your diploma. Diploma processing can take time, but most diplomas are mailed out from the office of Academic Records at the end of May through mid-June. This can take 2-6 weeks.
What should I know if I indicate that I am not participating in one of the 2021 ceremonies?
If you are not going to participate in a 2021 ceremony, then we will mail you your regalia, Alumni Bible, and your diploma cover. Students who indicate they are not coming will not be able to participate in the 2021 ceremony if their materials have already been mailed.
What if I don't know if I can attend yet?
That is totally fine. Please complete the RSVP and select "I'm not sure yet." We will reach out to all of these students again in the future to see if your plans have changed and you are able to attend.
Will the graduation fee be refunded to me if I choose not to come?
Unfortunately, no. No graduation fees will be refunded. This fee is a requirement for all students to graduate and pays for the final audit of your degree and the processing, printing, packaging, and shipping of your diploma. It is your responsibility to pay this fee before graduation verifications, transcripts and diplomas can be released.
Will the tassel and Alumni BIble clearly indicate that I was a 2020 graduate, not a 2021 graduate?
Yes. The tassel will show the year "2020." The Alumni Bible does not specify a graduation year.
Can I get my regalia, Bible, and diploma cover and still participate in the 2021 ceremony?
No, this will not be allowed. Extenuating circumstances will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the registrar. Email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions about this.
When will I get my diploma? Will I have to wait until the ceremony next year?
All diplomas will be processed and mailed as usual. Once final grades are submitted by professors and your degree requirements have been verified and met, we will mail your diploma. Usually this process happens in early June.
If I select to receive my regalia, Bible, and diploma cover, when will I receive it?
This information is still being determined and may depend on the resolution of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Where will my regalia, Bible, diploma cover, and diploma be sent?
All materials will be sent to the address that was provided to our office on your application to graduate. If this address has changed or you would like to confirm it, please email email@example.com.
I am an international student. Will you ship my graduation package materials internationally?
Yes, we will send these items to the address on your graduation application.
I am an international student. Will you also send the "country sash" for my home country that I would have worn at the ceremony?
No, any questions regarding the country sash should be directed to the Interenational Students Office: firstname.lastname@example.org.
If your question is not answered above you need further clarificaiton on any of the above answers, please email email@example.com.
